Taguig eyes eco-friendly transport

The Taguig City government has announced its plan to use eco-friendly means of transportation such as electric tricycles and electric jeepneys in the city as alternative to motorized vehicles.

Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga said the e-vehicles will lessen their dependency on diesel and gasoline, and will also give more benefits to residents. “With the e-vehicles, consumption of electricity will only be P20 as against P200 of gasoline for the tricycles,” he said.

Electric Vehicle Solutions president and CEO Sean Gerard Villoria, said the e-vehicles are eco-friendly because it has no gas emissions, noise free, and health-friendly. The alternative transportation is also efficient, easy to use, more stable and safer for road travel.

“With only eight hours of charging, the e-tricycle can run up to 120 kms. costing only P38. This way, income of operators can increase by up to 200 percent and operation can be decreased by as much as 70 percent,” Villoria said. Tiñga also said in a recently-held transport summit, that the East Service Road and sections of C-5 service road shall be widened for smooth traffic flow. – Rhodina Villanueva
