7-year-old girl dies in NAIA-3

A girl suffering from bone cancer died on her way to the departure area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) yesterday morning.

In a report received by NAIA general manager Alfonso Cusi, Miguela Jane Ugay, seven, accompanied by her father, Miguelito, was about to return to their hometown of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur on a Cebu Pacific flight when she died in her father’s lap.

“I noticed my daughter’s fingers were turning black, so I was looking for a medical clinic to check her condition. We were about to go home to Agusan but she did not make it,” Miguelito said.

A NAIA medical team responded to his call but Miguelito was told by attending physicians that his daughter could not be revived.

According to Miguelito, they went to Manila to have doctors look at his daughter, who they thought suffered from a broken bone last February.

“When we arrived at the National Orthopedic Hospital, doctors discovered that my daughter had bone cancer,” he said. “My daughter told me to bring her home if she was going to die.”     – Rudy Santos
