Volunteer firefighter hurt in Caloocan fire

A fire volunteer was injured in a fire that gutted a three-story building occupied by a general merchandising firm shortly after noon yesterday in Caloocan City.

SFO2 Arvin David said Miguel Que, a member of Rep. Mary Mitzi Cajayon’s volunteer fire brigade, sustained lacerations on the right leg while helping put out the fire. He was brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. There were no other reported injuries.

David said the fire broke out at around 1:45 pm yesterday. The fire, which has reached the fifth alarm, was still raging as of press time.

He said they gathered that sparks from a welding machine, which was being used by a worker at the top floor, could have ignited plastic materials in the area.

David identified the firm as FYF Graphics Corp. at the corner of 5th Avenue and M. H. del Pilar street. Investigators have yet to determine the amount of damage to property.
