Police shot dead a suspected jeepney robber during a reported shootout along Roxas Boulevard in Parañaque City early morning yesterday.
Police Officer 2 Johnny Margate, Parañaque police investigator, said the slain robber who was only identified as Bong encountered the responding policemen at around 3:10 a.m. while another suspect, Romy June Cayetano, 21, of Phase 4, Gatchalian Subdivision, Barangay Manuyo 2 in Las Piñas City, was arrested by the police.
The suspects had earlier robbed the passengers of a jeepney with license plate NXS-280 and driven by Joel Custodio that was cruising along the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard in Barangay Tambo.
The eight passengers were identified as Rodolfo Baracao, 24; Clark Palaganas, 30; Rodel Escalante, 37; Orlando Quintala, 26; Jane Victorioso, 22; Alita Panganiban, 28; Lianie Fandagani, 22; and Jeanila Amorado, 31.
Margate said the passengers immediately reported the robbery to the Baclaran police precinct and the responding policemen chased the two suspects.
During the chase, Bong allegedly fired his .38 caliber revolver at the policemen, which prompted the policemen to fire back. – Rhodina Villanueva
