Suspect in P10-M shabu case ‘just a runner’

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said yesterday a Chinese man recently arrested for peddling and possessing P10 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu is “just a runner” and lawmen are gunning for his bosses.

Peter Zhan Yu, 25, underwent inquest proceedings yesterday. Four kilos of crystalline substance were seized from Yu  during a buy-bust operation last Wednesday and laboratory tests by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency confirmed that the substance was shabu, according to Superintendent Milo Pagtalunan, chief of the QCPD’s District Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group.

Pagtalunan said they believe Yu merely facilitates transactions made by the syndicate to which he belongs. Yu tested negative for shabu.

Pagtalunan told The STAR that “we still have to go after his bosses… He (Yu) said his boss is in China and just calls him on the phone whenever there is a transaction (that he has to facilitate).”

He said they believe Yu is withholding information from them by pretending not to understand English or Filipino. When the police checked his cellular phone, all the entries were in Fookien.

But according to Pagtalunan, the suspect spoke in broken Filipino when he was earlier interrogated.
