The miraculous relic of St. Therese of the Child Jesus arrives at the Manila Cathedral today, for a three-day visit at the basilica of the Archdiocese of Manila.
Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales will lead the clergy and the faithful in welcoming the relic in a Mass at 11 a.m. that would be dedicated to “peace and unity in the nation,” according to the Archdiocesan Office of Communications.
After the Mass, the relic will be displayed at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of the church for public veneration until 6 a.m. on Monday.
Veneration of relics is an old practice of the Catholic faithful where miracles are derived. It was traced back to the days of St. Paul in the Acts of the Apostles in the Bible. “When handkerchiefs or clothes which touched his skin were applied to the sick, their diseases were cured and evil spirits departed from them.”
The veneration of the relic of St. Therese will be followed by an overnight vigil that will start at 6 p.m. – Edu Punay
