Police detonated yesterday a suspected bomb found at a condominium building in Pasay City.
Pasay police chief Senior Superintendent Marietto Valerio said janitor Adrian Perez discovered the package – initially believed to be a bomb – on the third floor of the Somerset Condominium on Leveriza street.
Perez immediately informed the building’s security personnel, who called the police station. Members of the Special Weapons and Tactics group rushed to the site and detonated the alleged bomb, wrapped in a yellow plastic bag.
Police said the plastic bag contained a beer bottle with electric wires twisted around it, a ballast and a blue fluorescent bulb.
Valerio said police initially thought that the unattended package was a bomb because of the electrical wires. He added that it is possible that an electrician could have just left his materials in the area or a prankster wanted to play a joke on the building’s occupants.
According to reports, investigators are looking into a misunderstanding between the building’s developer and the tenants as a possible motive for the “prank.”
Police said there was a general meeting of the tenants scheduled before the package was discovered. – Rhodina Villanueva
