P1 fare cut in Makati today for Binay’s birthday

Mayor Jejomar Binay, who will celebrate his 65th birthday on Sunday, has received a unique gift from Makati City’s jeepney and tricycle drivers.

Officers of the Unified Transport Federation of Makati Inc. and the Ang Bagong Makati Tricycle Federation, covering the first and second districts of Makati, signed a manifesto announcing the P1 reduction in regular fares from 8 a.m. to 12 noon today as a special treat for Binay’s birthday.

However, students, elderly and persons with disabilities are not covered by the incentive because they already get a 20 percent discount under the law.

The transport groups said Binay has “always looked after our welfare, constantly finding viable and permanent solutions to our sector’s woes.”

Binay expressed his gratitude for their unique birthday present, saying “this gesture of our transport groups is truly laudable. Despite the continuous oil price hike, they still found a way to treat the city’s commuters thru this ingenious birthday gift.”   – Michael Punongbayan
