BF residents protest Maynilad, developer tie-up

Residents of BF Homes Subdivision in Parañaque City are now asking Maynilad Water Services Inc. to junk the idea of letting BF Homes Inc. meddle with its plan to put up water stations as temporary solution to the residential area’s water woes.

Homeowners said they are worried over reports that the subdivisions’ owner and developer is seeking to act as a third party distributor, which will most likely result in more expensive water.

According to them, Maynilad should be the one to directly supply and distribute water through satellite stations until a permanent solution to their water problems is achieved.

BF Homes Homeowners Welfare Advocacy Group (HWAG) convenor, Hernan Juatas, said residents are opposed to allowing BF Homes Inc. into acting as a distribution arm because of its “history of incompetence.”

He said BF Homes Inc. had abandoned and neglected them for so long that residents do not want to entrust them with the responsibility of being Maynilad’s water distribution arm and charge them for the same in form of service charges.

“The pricing structure will make residents suffer,” Juatas told The Star in an interview, hoping that Maynilad will listen to them.

In a statement, HWAG said homeowners are “ready for further necessary mass actions” to achieve their ultimate goal of finding a permanent solution to their water problems in the long run by having their homes directly connected to Maynilad’s water pipelines.

The group explained that Manila Water and Sewerage Systems (MWSS) officials came up with the idea of putting up water stations in the areas of Aguirre and El Grande using old pipelines during a recent meeting with residents.

“We, as homeowners welcome the proposal. We created a Water Tankering Committee to discuss the mechanics with Maynilad and other stakeholders. A meeting is being arranged,” HWAG said.

However, residents said they received reports that Maynilad and BF Homes Inc. have been talking and are forging a tie-up.

“We can only speculate on what happened since these talks lack transparency. The agenda were not made known to the most important stakeholders, the homeowners, whose interest and welfare the government is bund to protect,” HWAG said.

Residents said they want Maynilad to be the supplier and distributor and will oppose any move that will allow BF Homes Inc. to interfere.
