Taguig obtains P112-M loan for solid waste management

The Taguig City government is set to draw a P112-million loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines for the implementation of a 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan for the city.

The amount will be used to provide more than 14,000 segregation bins, which will be placed at strategic points in 18 barangays.

Taguig City Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga said the city is veering away from the use of ordinary dump trucks and will shift to containerized and mechanized collection of garbage.

"This endeavor is in compliance with Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act as we strive to make Taguig the Philippines ’ cleanest city in 10 years," Tiñga said.

The first phase of the program was implemented last year. – Rhodina Villanueva
