2 Korean nationals hurt in holdup

Two Korean nationals were hurt, as motorcycle-riding robbers took away from them close to a million pesos in cash in a daring afternoon heist yesterday in front of a fastfood establishment in Quezon City.

Police identified the victims as Seo Chang Jun, 39, and Ginalyn Lim, 34, both residents Labista Street, also Quezon City.

Initial investigation showed that the two Koreans had just taken lunch at McDonald’s located at the corner of Quezon Avenue and West Forth Street in Barangay West Triangle and were waiting for a cab around 1:30 p.m. when four men, riding motorcycles in tandem, suddenly appeared and at gunpoint held up the victims.

It was learned that the victims withdrew money from a bank in Araneta Avenue before proceeding to the restaurant.

The victims’ resistance prompted the suspects to fire their guns, hitting both Koreans. Bystanders brought the victims to the Capitol Medical Center for treatment.

Police said the suspects took away P920,000-worth of cash. The suspects sped off towards Timog Avenue.

Investigators are still verifying the occupation of the Korean nationals, and if the money stolen from them was for payroll. Police launched a manhunt operation in a bid to apprehend the suspects. – Katherine Adraneda
