QC mayor Assures squatters of housing

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. vowed to continue the city government’s efforts to solve the housing problem of local squatters.

Belmonte assured the informal settlers that resettlement sites will have complete amenities.

During the regular executive staff meeting at the QC Hall Bulwagang Amoranto last Wednesday, the mayor admitted that the long-term problem of the city is the resettlement of squatters.

"We need a huge amount in building subdivisions with amenities for them (squatters)," he said. "Otherwise, the effort is doomed to fail."

Belmonte cited as example the more than 100 families affected by the Payatas garbage slide which were resettled by the city government in Barangay San Jose, in Rodriguez, Rizal. The residents are slowly returning to Payatas because they have no sources of livelihood in Rodriguez. – Perseus Echeminada
