Senate spouses turn over renovated wards to PGH

The Senate Spouses Foundation Inc. (SSFI) has unveiled its gift to thousands of indigent patients.

SSFI chair and Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar joined other Senate spouses during the turnover of the renovated wards 5,6,7,8 of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) to the management.

The project is part of the P20-million major facelift of eight PGH wards undertaken by the SSFI early last year to address the increasing medical needs of indigent patients from all over the country.

With 50 beds each, PGH wards 5 to 8 houses patients of neurosciences, rehabilitation medicine, surgical, psychiatry and orthopedics unit of the medical institution.

PGH director Carmelo Alfiler has praised SSFI’s major contribution to PGH’s quest for excellent medical services.

"We are all thankful to this project. This is the first major rehabilitation of PGH since its creation 100 years ago. Maraming salamat sa SSFI," he said.

For her part, Villar said, "The SSFI is committed to serve the indigent sectors with improved health services through its continuous free medical and dental missions and care for the abandoned elderly."

SSFI members Mila Drilon, Bing Pimentel, Kate Gordon, Fely Arroyo, Susan Flavier, Baby Magsaysay and Henri Khan also witnessed the event.

Nearly a million patients flock to the PGH for medical attention every year.
