Unattended stove starts fire in Parañaque

A fire razed several houses Parañaque City late morning yesterday and left at least 25 families homeless.

No one was hurt.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Felipe Caguing, arson investigator, said the fire started in the house of one Elsa Gallantes in Barangay Sto. Niño, around 11:34 a.m. when one of the household members forgot to watch over food being cooked in the kitchen.

Caguing said the stove overheated and caused a fire that immediately spread to neighboring houses. Most of the houses are made of light materials.

Firefighters put the fire out at around 12:52 p.m. It took at least five firetrucks to extinguish the blaze, which left an estimated P100,000 in property damage. — Rhodina Villanueva
