QC earmarks P1.4 B for infra projects in ’07

The Quezon City government is investing P1.42 billion worth of infrastructure projects in 2007, which brings to more than P8 billion the total amount it has invested in infrastructure development in the past five and a half years.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. cited the need to pour a considerable amount in infrastructure development to attract more investments and make lives better in Quezon City.

Quezon City engineering department officer-in-charge Joselito Cabungcal said the city’s P1.42-billion infrastructure budget for 2007 will fund about 250 projects.

Based on the mayor’s development plan, the bulk of the 2007 projects, amounting to P900 million, or 63 percent, will be used for expanding road networks. P456 million or 32 percent will be spent for the construction of about 140 new classrooms and the repair of existing ones.

During the past five and a half years, the Quezon City government’s investments in school construction and repair have supplemented significantly by as much as P2.297 billion the Department of Education’s infrastructure budget in the city.
