Muntinlupa represents RP in Japan environment gab

As the country’s representative to an environmental conference which starts today and ends Oct. 31 in Japan, the Muntinlupa City government will conduct a presentation of its modern but low-cost wastewater facility built to save Laguna Lake.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said also included in their presentation in the conference in Takasaki, Japan, are the city’s current environmental programs and ecological plans.

The conference which carries the theme "Earth, Our Eternal Home," is part of the weeklong celebration of the Global Citizens Week 2006.

Fresnedi said he will present several interventions the city took in saving Laguna Lake by building its own modern but low-cost wastewater facility in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

"The project, which was completed January of this year, was financed by the city with technical expertise from USAID. It is called Local Initiative for Affordable Wastewater Treatment or LINAW and has now successfully decreased the pollution level of the wastewater at the city’s biggest public market from the previous 600 milligrams per liter of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) to 30 milligrams per liter BOD," he explained.
