Manila Police District (MPD)s homicide section head Chief Inspector Alejandro Yanquiling Jr. said a team of operatives is now after the trail of the other gunman who was implicated by the arrested suspect.
Last Sunday, police arrested Mark Gamba, 20, of Sta. Ana, Manila, while he was confined at the Trauma Section of the Ospital ng Makati.
Gamba was recuperating at the said hospital after trading shots with SPO2 Emmanuel Lopez, detailed at the MPDs District Police Intelligence Unit, during a robbery incident at the corner of Tejeron and Pedro Gil streets in Sta. Ana.
"We got information that the same suspect is one of the gunmen in the killing of student Jhon Mark Cerbito," Yanquiling said. One of the robbery victims positively identified Gamba at his hospital bed as one of two men who shot Cerbito.
Officer-on-case SPO3 Edison Bertoldo said the killing occurred inside a Guadalupe-bound passenger jeepney in Sta. Ana past midnight on June 2.
Three male suspects announced the holdup and divested several passengers of their belongings. Two of the armed suspects attempted to get Cerbitos cellular phone but he refused and tried to fight the suspect. The gunmen shot him.
The other gunman was identified by witnesses from the polices rogue gallery as Alvin Corpuz, who is now the subject of a manhunt by the homicides section folowup team of operatives.
Three counts of robbery and robbery with homicide were filed against Gamba.
