Another Manila jail escapee falls

The Manila police recaptured yesterday another prisoner who escaped from the detention cell of the Jose Abad Santos police station recently.

Rolando Dizon, who was arrested for assault and violation of Republic Act 7610, was cornered by operatives of Station 7 along Benitez Street in Tondo at around 1:30 p.m.

Superintendent Arturo Paglinawan, chief of the police station, said they carried out the arrest after receiving a tip from an asset who spotted Dizon in the area.

Dizon was among the 17 prisoners who escaped from the detention cell last May 12. So far, only 10 of the 17 have been recaptured.

Police earlier arrested nine of the escapees in different police operations. The last one nabbed by the police was Jonathan Poreda, a robbery-holdup suspect who was recaptured at the Luneta Park last Monday.

Last May 13, two other escapees —Florecel Gutierrez and Roy Serrano — fell in separate police operations. They were detained on illegal gambling and drug charges, respectively.

The seven escapees who remain at large were identified as Sonny delos Reyes, Carlito Relox, Ariel Dollente, Roosevelt Bondoc, Divino Jimenez, Rolando Bautista and Edwin Magusara.

Paglinawan said all police stations in Manila, including the Manila Police Trackers, have been alerted on the profile of the escapees.

"This is a continuing operation. We will not stop until we recapture all of them," he said in a telephone interview. Edu Punay
