Napolcom examiner nabbed for extortion

Operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have arrested an examiner of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) for allegedly extorting money from the widow of a traffic policeman in Makati City.

Superintendent Nelson Yabut, assigned at the CIDG-NCR, identified the suspect as Carmen Reboredo, 56, a fiscal examiner assigned to Napolcom’s Finance Service Division.

She faces robbery-extortion charges for allegedly asking P5,000 from Charito Perez Reyes in exchange for the speedy release of death benefits. Reboredo would also be charged for violation of Republic Act 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

The complainant’s husband, Police Officer 2 Armando Reyes, died on Aug. 11, 2001 in a traffic accident.

Yabut said Reboredo was arrested during an entrapment at a fastfood restaurant along Jupiter street near Makati Avenue in Makati City at around 3 p.m. last Thursday.

Napolcom vice chairperson and executive officer Imelda Roces said Reyes filed a complaint against Reboredo, whom she accused of demanding money from her in exchange for the release of her husband’s pension of P200,000.

Napolcom sought the help of the CIDG, which set up an entrapment operation.
