The woman, who gave her name as Zheng Hong, personally sought the help of the Regional Special Action Unit (RSAU) based at Old Sta. Mesa in Manila at about 2 p.m. last Friday.
Initial investigation conducted by PO3 Ernie San Agustin, RSAU investigator, showed that Hong was snatched by several armed men on board two cars with license plates PSD-581 and PSH-645 in front of the Casa Plaza Hotel in Ermita at about 6:30 a.m.
Police said the victim was able to identify the license plates of the cars used by the suspects, but could not recall their make or model.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers contacted the victims family and demanded an unspecified amount for her release.
The victims family agreed to the pay the ransom and were instructed to bring the money near the Pureza terminal of LRT-2 along Magsaysay Boulevard.
Police said that before the swap could take place, Hong was able to break free from her abductors and screamed for help while running toward a nearby RSAU outpost.
The kidnappers quickly fled, the police report said.
The victim, escorted by RSAU-Pureza police outpost chief Inspector Romeo Mendoza, was immediately transferred to the National Capital Region Police Office.
