NBI agents to get bulletproof vests, baby Armalite rifles

Equipped with new bulletproof vests and soon to be armed with new baby Armalites, operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) can now undertake more daring operations against criminals.

Regional Director Ruel Lasala, of the NBI-National Capital Region (NCR), said that with their latest acquisitions, they can now match the firepower of organized and well-funded criminal syndicates operating in the country today.

Lasala said that the bureau recently acquired 100 bulletproof vests from the US. Each vest costs P26,000.

They are also waiting for the arrival of 100 new baby Armalites worth P85,000 each.

Lasala said it was necessary to purchase new equipment to protect their agents during encounters.

"Criminals nowadays are becoming bolder and have modern and powerful firearms. We have to prepare for any eventuality," Lasala said. – Evelyn Macairan
