Taguig eyes convention center, coliseum at Fort Bonifacio

The Taguig City government is planning to put up a coliseum and a convention center on a 3.5-hectare property in Fort Bonifacio.

Taguig Mayor Freddie Tinga said that with the help of investors, they plan to build a city coliseum beside the Market! Market! commercial center.

The announcement was made just as the Computer Manufacturers, Distributors and Dealers Association of the Philippines (COMDDAP) revealed plans to permanently hold their annual exposition in the city.

The COMDDAP Expo is the country’s biggest computer and technology exposition in the last 19 years. The group has successfully organized the event at Fort Bonifacio in the last two years.

"Our COMDDAP directors were very pleased with the way Taguig officials dealt with them and they found it very easy to do all their transactions, including getting permits and all necessary papers. Everything was done efficiently. We did not have a hard time," COMDDAP president Wesley Ngo said.

Last Oct. 6, COMDDAP gathered more than 40 companies specializing in information and communications technology (ICT), telecommunications and consumer electronics for a four-day exposition held at a 2,000-square meter, custom-built tent at the Fort.

The group said a bigger venue like the proposed convention center will serve them even better.

Expo 2005 chairperson Gigi Ngui said it was the biggest gathering of technology and computer companies in the history of COMMDAP.

Tinga expressed his gratitude for COMDDAP’s decision to hold their expo in Taguig.
