PSG man arrested in Valenzuela

Police arrested an Army corporal, assigned at the Presidential Security Group (PSG) in Malacañang, for creating a scene at a jeepney terminal last Thursday in Valenzuela City.

Cpl. Juanito Pamatian III, armed with a caliber .45 pistol, was allegedly drunk and harassing drivers and bystanders at a terminal in Barangay Marulas before midnight.

With a drawn handgun, the Army man started confronting everyone in sight and challenging them to a fight.

Alarmed residents called for assistance from a nearby police sub-station, resulting in Pamatian’s immediate arrest.

While being investigated at the police station, PSG operatives armed with rifles arrived on a military jeep.

A certain Sgt. Danilo Lachica introduced himself as the military man’s immediate superior and looked for city police chief Superintendent Billy Beltran.

The two officials talked inside Beltran’s office and moments later, the PSG trooper was ordered released without any charges.

"Our chief of police said it would be up to the PSG officials to sanction their man," a police source said.

Earlier this week, PSG chief Brig. Gen. Delfin Bangit said his unit would not condone any abuse or wrongdoing by any of its members.

Bangit called on the public to immediately report to him any abuse committed by any of his men.

"We would like to assure the public that we in the PSG will not be part of any unscrupulous activity," Bangit said. "Should there be one element of PSG doing activities outside our mandated task then let us know and we’ll take appropriate action."

In Caloocan City, police are hunting down a certain Ramiro Makiling, alias Aming, a resident of Sitio Dulo Hernandez, Barangay Catmon, Malabon, for shooting dead jeepney driver Allan Bani last Thursday.

Bani, 30, a resident of Block 57-I, Lot 28, Phase 3-F2, Barangay 8, Caloocan, sustained gunshot wounds in the back and died while being treated at Tondo Medical Center at around 4 a.m. yesterday.

Police said that the victim was walking along Sabalo street in Barangay 8 at around 9 p.m. when approached and shot once in the back with a shotgun by the suspect.

Makiling escaped with his weapon. The police are still investigating the suspect’s motive in killing Bani. – With Paolo Romero
