93 new classrooms for Valenzuela pupils

More school children stand to benefit from the 93 additional classrooms built under the initiative of Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian as classes open on Monday, authorities announced yesterday.

"This effort is part of the city government’s 10-point Agenda for Development. With the fast growing population, we need to provide our children with more classrooms. We are stating here once more our commitment to investing in the city’s future by, among others, furnishing the youth of the city with a better environment and one that is conducive to learning," Gatchalian said.

The construction of the classrooms, now being inaugurated one after the other before school formally opens on Monday, was financed by some P60 million drawn from the Special Education Fund of the local school board, the mayor said.

Gatchalian said the new classrooms were distributed in 16 schools located in Barangays Isla, Coloong, Sto. Rosario, Pasolo, Canumay East and West, Silvestre Lazaro and Punturin, all elementary schools, and the national high schools of Mapulang Lupa, Bignay, Lawang Bato, Maysan, Parada and the Dalandanan Science High School.

The mayor further announced that the city government has also funded the rehabilitation of several classrooms in Constantino, Dona Ata and Bitik elementary schools. – Jerry Botial, Pete Laude
