2 vintage bombs found in Malabon junkyard

Neighborhood residents were alarmed after two World War II bombs were found inside a junkyard, half-buried among piles of assorted scrap metal apparently being readied for recycling, last Thursday night in Malabon City.

A bomb disposal squad of Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team immediately drove to the Mother’s Club junkyard on Alupihang Dagat street in Barangay Longos after call for assistance.

The bomb experts said the bombs could still endanger people’s lives, either injuring or killing them, and bring serious damage to property if mishandled.

PO3 Benedicto Zafra, officer on case, said the bombs were found at around 6 p.m. by Michael Vilias, junkyard owner, as he rummaged around.

Fearing untoward incidents that could happen, Vilias quickly reported the presence of the bombs in his yard first to barangay officials and later to the police for appropriate disposition. Jerry Botial
