2 boys drown in Marikina river

Two six-year-old boys drowned in the Marikina River while trying to catch spiders during the Holy Week.

The bodies of Patrick Sensoy, of Gen. Trias, Cavite, and Ar-Jay Noel, of Barangay Nangka, Marikina City were recovered the other day, almost a day after they were reported missing on Maundy Thursday.

According to the Marikina police, Sensoy and his mother were staying as guests at the Noel family residence on Aries street, Camacho Compound in Barangay Nangka for the Lenten break.

At around 4:45 p.m. last Thursday, the two boys decided to go out of the house to catch spiders by the river.

The two never returned.

Patrick’s mother, Reinalyn, became worried and went looking for the children. When she got to the river, all she saw were a pair of slippers belonging to one of the boys.

The mother immediately sought the help of barangay officials, who in turn, called the police.

Members of the Marikina police Rescue 161 were joined by frogmen of the Philippine Coast Guard in searching for the two boys.

They were able to find the body of Sensoy at around 12:45 a.m. the next day. Noel’s body was discovered five hours later.

Police said the boys could have drowned after slipping and falling into the river while catching spiders.
