MMDA warns of heavy traffic near EDSA-Muñoz intersection

Motorists passing through EDSA-Muñoz intersection in Quezon City were told to brace for nighttime traffic in the next two weeks by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) as it starts construction of a pedestrian footbridge in the area.

MMDA Undersecretary Cesar Lacuna announced during the agency’s regular radio program yesterday that they would close the northbound lane of EDSA in the vicinity and advised motorists to use the two lanes at the southbound lane allocated for northbound vehicles.

Today, the road would be closed from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following day.

Although the traffic interruption would happen late at night and until early morning, they still expect the construction to create traffic bottlenecks because "EDSA is busy 24 hours a day."

Lacuna said the temporary re-routing scheme is due to the construction of a footbridge at the road intersection, which is expected to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the area as traffic lights would be eliminated if pedestrians can already cross the street using the footbridge.

In exchange for the slight inconvenience, a better traffic flow is expected in the area once the project is completed.

The MMDA said that it would impose different traffic re-routing schemes along the intersection depending on the progress of the construction project in the next 12 days.
