Angry mob attacks Malonzo supporters

Three supporters of Caloocan City Mayor Reynaldo Malonzo were hurt after they were allegedly hit by rocks from followers of political rivals as they were putting up campaign posters yesterday in Caloocan City.

The victims, identified as Fe Ocampo, Michael Huelar and Marvin Opon, blamed supporters of Malonzo’s rivals for their injuries. Malonzo’s wife, Gwendolyn "Gigi" Malonzo, is running for mayor under the Lakas-CMD banner.

The three sought help from the Station Investigation Bureau (SIB) headed by Inspector Romeo Onte.

Police are now conducting investigation on the incident. The victims reported that some 50 persons charged at them while putting up posters of the mayor’s wife in front of the Maria Clara Elementary School near 8th Avenue in Barangay 105.

They claimed some persons prevented them from doing their job. When they refused to heed them, the still unidentified persons allegedly started throwing rocks at them, some of which hit and shattered the windshield of their vehicle, a city hall multicab (GRV-765).

As they hurriedly left the place for their safety, three gunshots were heard by the victims. No one was hit by the alleged shots fired by the angry mob. — Jerry Botial
