Superintendent Perpetuo Sanson, Las Piñas police chief, identified the suspect as Eun Jong Noh, 33, a Korean businessman, married, and a resident of Tahanan Village, Parañaque City.
Sanson said they would file charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against Noh for the death of Lydia Mahoto, 21, a resident of BF Resort Village, Las Piñas. She was six months pregnant.
Initial investigation showed that at around 11:45 p.m. of Jan. 23, Mahoto was crossing J. Aguilar Avenue in Barangay Pamplona 3 when a blue Toyota Tamaraw FX (XES-131) hit her. The driver, instead of bringing her to a nearby hospital, sped off toward the Alabang-Zapote Road.
"Tricycle drivers from a nearby terminal were the ones who brought her to the Sarate Medical Clinic, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. She suffered serious head and body injuries," Sanson said.
One witness called the local police station and a flash alarm for the vehicle was relayed to the officers in the field.
Policemen manning a checkpoint at the boundary of Las Piñas and EVACOM, Sucat, Parañaque City spotted the vehicle just past midnight and noticed that the bumper was damaged.
They flagged it down and when they went to talk to the driver, he was allegedly reeking of liquor. He was then taken to the police station. Evelyn Macairan
