Woman crushed by train in Taguig

A young woman was crushed to death by a rampaging train after she miscalculated her step while crossing the tracks yesterday around noon in western Taguig.

The victim, Janice Mandal, said to be in her early 20s, was with her elder sister Nancy in Barangay Sto. Niño, western Taguig looking for a boarding house when the accident happened. Both reportedly applied for work with the Army prior to the incident.

The sisters were about to leave one of the houses along the tracks when Janice went ahead of her sister toward the door. Just then, a passenger train came roaring by and Nancy thought hersister made it to the other side of the tracks.

But she heard a loud thud and saw Janice’s body hit a wall of the house after being hit by the train before being run over.

Janice’s blood was splattered all over her sister’s folder.

"Akala ko nakaiwas siya. Iyon pala nasagasaan na siya (I thought she made it. But she was run over)," Nancy said.

Janice’s body was dragged about two meters on the tracks severing both her feet.

She was declared dead on arrival at a Makati hospital. Ann Corvera
