Agents of the Northern Police District Intelligence Unit prevented what could have been a bloody confrontation between two groups of youngsters with the arrest of a 17-year-old boy, who was caught carrying an improvised 12-gauge shotgun, locally known as sumpak Friday.
DPIU operatives lead by PO3 Robin Bautista of the Western Police District, a resident of Barangay Longos in Malabon, chanced upon three armed youngsters roaming in Phase 2, Area 3 in Barangay Longos at around 1:30 p.m.
The operatives immediately noticed the bulging waistline of one of the teen-aged boys. When accosted by the authorities, he yielded an improvised shotgun loaded with a single live bullet.
"We have learned that the young boys were looking for another group of youngsters whom they have a confrontation early in the morning," Chief Inspector Sotero Ramos Jr., NPD-DPIU chief, said.
Ramos said charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition would be filed against the boy.
Meanwhile, Operatives of the Station Anti-Illegal Drugs-Special Operations Unit arrested a woman and her nephew in an operation before dawn yesterday in Caloocan City.
Chief Inspector Cesar Gonzales Cruz, Caloocan City police SAID-SOU chief, identified the suspects as Mary Jane Cruz, 30, and Adonis Estrella, 19, both of Phase 7-B, Package 1, Block 56 in Bagong Silang.
Police said that at around 5 a.m., the SAID-SOU operatives swooped down on the suspects’ residence and caught them in the act of sniffing shabu.
Several shabu-sniffing paraphernalia and a sachet of shabu were seized from the suspects, police said.
The duo are now detained at the Caloocan City police detention cell.
