Alvarez strikes back

The family driver of former basketball star Paul Alvarez went to the Makati City police station past noon yesterday to file a damage to property complaint against a man who accused him of sleeping with his wife last Oct. 9.

Manuel Verdadero, 25, of 8953 Legaspi street, Barangay Olympia, Makati City, reported to the Makati police, on behalf of Alvarez, that Jorge Alfredo Lopez III allegedly hit his employer’s silver Honda CRV (XKB-288).

Verdadero went to the police station at around 1:23 p.m. to file a complaint against Lopez, 26, of Magallanes Village, Makati City. He did not specify the cost of damage.

The incident was recorded in the police blotter "for future reference." Police sources said the report might be used once Alvarez files a libel suit against Lopez.

The cager has denied the allegations.

Police records showed at around 4 a.m. of Oct. 9, Lopez arrived at his house with his two friends and saw Alvarez’s Honda CRV parked nearby. When the group went to the bedroom, they allegedly saw Lopez’s American wife Sarah Jane lying in bed naked embracing Alvarez.

Lopez also claimed his wife went after them with a kitchen knife, injuring one of his companions.

Meanwhile, Senior Police Officer 4 Aurelia Go, of the Makati police Women and Children Protection Unit, and case officer Police Officer 1 Evangeline Babor went to the Magallanes Village yesterday afternoon hoping to interview Lopez’s wife.

Go said they made two attempts to interview her, coursing their request to a detailed barangay security officer, but she refused to entertain them, asking the police officers to talk to her lawyer instead. – Evelyn Macairan
