Doc takes extreme cab ride

A lady doctor became the subject of a complaint by a taxi driver after she allegedly refused to pay the fare in an aimless trip she took around the city yesterday in Caloocan City.

Dr. Anita Ventanilla, 40, single, of 5661 Don Pedro street, Barangay Poblacion, Makati City, found herself accused of estafa at the police station by Virgilio Rivera, 44, married, driver of an R&E taxi, and resident of San Fernando, Pampanga.

In his statement before PO2 Joel Aquino of the Station Investigation Bureau (SIB) and officer-on-case, said the incident took place shortly after midnight yesterday when the suspect flagged down the taxi driven by Rivera along Kalayaan Avenue, Makati.

Initial reports said the doctor asked to be taken to Caloocan City after she went around in an aimless direction. The cabbie claimed the doctor appeared distressed and confused.

Finding that the fare had ran up to P1,375, the cabbie simply asked the suspect to get off and pay the amount. The lady allegedly refused prompting him to bring her to the police station instead. – Jerry Botial
