Jockey killed over horse manure

Harsh words over horse manure led a stable hand to stab a jockey in Makati City yesterday morning.

Victim Loreto Salazar, 53, or Riverside, Makati, sustained stab wounds in different parts of the body and was rushed to the Makati Medical Center for treatment.

Police immediately arrested suspect Jose Dollesin, also 53, a stay-in helper at Narciso Morales Stable at the PRC Compound in Barangay Carmona, Makati.

Investigation showed the incident happened at around 6 a.m. at the stable.

In his report, case investigator SPO1 Lewelie Cristobal, said the incident stemmed from an argument between the two men over horse manure.

Salazar saw manure on the neck of his racehorse and allegedly reprimanded Dollesin for doing a sloppy job of cleaning the horse.

Dollesin ran inside a stable, got a fan knife, then stabbed the victim on the arms and thighs.

But from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) detection cell, Dollesin said he was only provoked by the victim.

Dollesin said despite his apologies and offer to clean the horse, Salazar allegedly slapped him on the face and hit his right arm with a whip. Nikko Dizon
