US, Aussie-bound shabu package intercepted at NAIA

Anti-drug authorities ordered the seizure yesterday of two packages bound for the United States and Australia after they were found to contain shabu during a routine X-ray inspection at the cargo terminal of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The packages that contained the illegal drugs with a street value of P92,060 were turned over to the Metro Manila Regional Office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) by DHL security officer Lucinda Salazar. When examined at the PNP Crime Laboratory, chemical analysis showed the seized substance were indeed shabu.

PDEA Director Anselmo Avenido said the drug interception was a result of an intensified nationwide campaign against smuggling of illegal drugs in and out of the country.

Investigation conducted showed that the illegal drugs were discovered inside two packages with airway bills no. 2812640832 bound for Queensland, Australia and no. 2849504070 bound for New York.

The first package was consigned to a certain Wningning Yap of 17, Unit 4, Bukby Street, Queensland and the shipper was Marga Maravill of 31 Exequiel street, Compound 1, Marikina City. The second box was consigned to a certain Carlos dela Torre of Suite Fe, 212-29 Hillside Avenue, Queens Vil., New York and was shipped by Richard delos Torre of Silver Lane street, Bulacan Medallion, Ibayo, Bulacan.
