"Many ordinary residents have the mistaken notion that these bombs no longer pose a hazard to them but they are still very dangerous," Northern Police District director Chief Superintendent Marcelino Franco Jr. said.
Barangay Chairman Felipe Cortez, of Malinta, called the office of Valenzuela City police chief Superintendent Jose Marcelo at around 10 a.m. yesterday, informing him about a stockpile of vintage bombs found in Sitio Balubaran.
The explosives were reportedly found at the Mega Well junk shop by a barangay tanod who was conducting a routine patrol in the area.
A team from the Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD) of the Valenzuela City police immediately went to the area and seized the explosives.
The vintage bombs were reportedly sold to the Mega Well junk shop by garbage collectors.
"I believe that there are still many of these vintage bombs in our surroundings, and I do hope people will follow what Chairman Cortez did. Report it to the police for your own safety," Franco said. Pete Laude
