Meralco lineman shot dead

A man, introducing himself as a policeman, shot dead over the weekend a lineman of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) in front of his horrified girlfriend in Pasig City.

Senior Superintendent Ernesto Catungal, newly-designated Pasig City police chief, has ordered all policemen assigned at the Police Community Precinct 8 in Barangay Rosario to submit themselves for investigation to shed light to the killing of Patricio Hernandez, who was a resident of Dr. Sixto Avenue, Barangay Rosario.

Catungal immediately set a meeting between policemen and the victim’s girlfriend, Evangeline Maglalang, 27, who claimed she had a clear view of the suspect’s face.

Police prober P02 Rodolfo Molina said the victim and Maglalang were boarding a grey Toyota Corolla (NJJ 264) parked in front of a Petron gas station on Ortigas Avenue, Barangay Rosario at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday when the suspect appeared from nowhere.

The suspect introduced himself as a policeman from PCP 8 and claimed he was arresting the lovers for committing a violation.

When Hernandez demanded to know their violation, the suspect flared up and a heated argument ensued.

It was at the height of the argument when the suspect took out his firearm and opened fire at Hernandez at close range. Hernandez sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot.

The suspect casually walked away from the scene leaving behind a shocked Maglalang. – Non Alquitran
