Free hospital services for senior citizens

More than 20,000 elderly in Las Piñas City now have a reason to celebrate following the announcement of Mayor Vergel Aguilar that they are also covered by his administration’s free hospitalization program.

Aguilar made the announcement as the country observes the National Elderly Week.

Aguilar explained that a P25,000 free hospitalization benefit covers the cost of daily room rates, medicines, laboratory tests, doctor’s fee for minor illnesses and minor surgery.

A patient can be confined at the San Juan de Dios Hospital along Roxas Boulevard and Las Piñas Doctors Hospital along J. Aguilar Avenue, the two hospitals the city government has chosen as partners.

"In Las Piñas, we take care of our residents especially the elders and we make sure that we will continuously provide them with the best and free services, particularly those concerning their health and welfare," Aguilar stressed.

Vic Talampas, technical assistant for health, announced that as part of the celebration, the city health department also lined up a series of activities such as free eye consultation and cataract operation, free bone density analysis and osteoporosis lecture for the elderly.

In Quezon City, residents of the third district can receive free basic medical services today at the Doña Josefa Elementary School in Cubao. The free service, which will be offered from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. is a project of Quezon City Rep. Maite Defensor.
