Truckers seeking toll subsidy

The umbrella organization of truckers’ groups has asked the national government to give trucks the same toll rate subsidy enjoyed by passenger buses using the South Luzon Tollway (SLT) and the Skyway.

"The toll hike was for the debt servicing of the Skyway but trucks are not even allowed to use the elevated portion so why make us pay higher toll rates?" asked Nilo Gajo, vice president for internal affairs of the Confederation of Truckers’ Association of the Philippines (CTAP).

CTAP said there are at least 10,000 trucks that use the SLT every day, mostly from the North Harbor in Manila going south to Metro Manila and the Calabarzon area.

The government, through the Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC), has agreed to shoulder P40 of the toll paid by buses using the SLT and Skyway. – Nikko Dizon
