726 litterbugs nabbed in Makati

Careful where you throw that candy wrapper.

The Makati City government’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) has apprehended 726 litterbugs during round-the-clock anti-littering operations in the month of July.

In a report to Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay, SWMD chief Raul Javier said that of the total, 625 were transients while 101 were Makati residents.

The litterbugs were apprehended along Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, J.P. Rizal Extension, Pasong Tamo Street, F. Arnaiz Avenue, Pasong Tirad, Magallanes and Reposo.

Part of the penalty is to require a violator to attend a seminar on proper waste disposal. The city government’s legal department has issued notices to those who failed to appear, advising them to attend the seminar or face charges in court for violating city ordinances.

Javier said the intensified anti-littering campaign will further bolster the city government’s goal of making Makati one of the country’s cleanest urban centers.
