House bill to benefit veterans’ children

In a move to honor the heroism of the country’s war veterans, a bill is being pushed in Congress that will benefit a veteran’s child or grandchild through employment in government service.

House Bill 785 authored by Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar seeks to extend preference for employment to any one child or grandchild of veterans in the government including government owned and controlled corporations (GOCC’S).

Villar said the government should lead in valuing the contributions of World War II, Vietnam and Korean War veterans to the formation of national consciousness of freedom and independence.

"The government can provide the children or grandchildren of veterans a continuing vocation by offering them a place in public service," Villar added.

The bill mandates all appointing personnel to grant preference to the child or grandchild of a veteran for any position in any government office or GOCC.

This move, Villar explained, comes with the hope that the same ideals embraced by the veterans of the country are inculcated in their offspring and eventually work to the advantage of the bureaucracy.
