Cousins maul laborer to death over grudge

Police arrested yesterday two cousins after they mauled to death their 24 year-old co-worker during a drinking session in a construction supply firm in Quezon City.

Victim Jerry Tiluz, a laborer of Cypress Bonamite Rock Supply, sustained fatal wounds in the head after he was bludgeoned with a two by four piece of lumber and died on the spot.

The suspects, Marcial Frando and Romeo Arendo, cousins, and also working at the said place, are detained at the Central Police District headquarters awaiting proper charges.

Police sources said that Frando had an old grudge against Tiluz. The two suspects apparently waited for the victim to pass out before they killed him. They were arrested almost immediately by responding policemen.

Initial reports showed that the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. inside the firm’s office at 38 North Road corner EDSA, Barangay Bagong Lipunan, Quezon City.

The three were having a drinking session and after downing several bottles of hard liquor, Tiluz passed out on a bench. Frando and Arendo then took the piece of lumber and bashed the victim’s head several times.

Tiluz died instantly. The suspects immediately fled the scene and stayed at a friend’s house nearby, but policemen were able to locate them. – Matthew Estabillo
