Train runs over teacher

A former public school teacher of Pasay City was ran over by a speeding train while trying to cross the railroad tracks in Makati City yesterday.

SPO1 Onie Ricote of the Southern Police District Traffic Center identified the victim as Antonio Ostan, 52, a former teacher of the Don Carlos Revilla Elementary School in Pasay City and a resident of 9-C Interior 3rd St., West Crame, San Juan.

According to Ricote, the incident took place at around 11:30 a.m. along the Philippine National Railways tracks in the area of North Bangkal, Makati City.

Ostan, who recently resigned from his teaching job, was crossing the railroad tracks when a cargo train rammed into him. The driver of the train failed to notice Ostan and ran over the victim without even slowing down. Ricote said that the victim’s body was mutilated as a result.

Investigators were able to recover several items on the tracks which were said to be the goods being sold by the victim.

According to the relatives of the victim, Ostan resorted to the direct selling of some unspecified goods when he resigned from his teaching job. – Marvin Sy
