Chief Inspector Dario Roxas of the Police Community Precinct 2 (PCP2) of Station 2 of the Western Police District (WPD) became the second police official sacked in the drive against jueteng waged by Interior Secretary Joey Lina.
Metro Manila police chief Deputy Director General Edgar Aglipay ordered the relief of Roxas yesterday following the successful jueteng raid last May 30 by elements of the Regional Intelligence and Special Operations Office (RISOO) in Wagas street in Tondo.
RISOO operatives under Superintendent Bayani de la Rea arrested former policeman Alex Mabasa and nine others while they were drawing the evening result of the jueteng operations of a certain Milo Samson. Mabasa is the alleged jueteng den maintainer.
Seized during the raid were P3,500 cash bets, and jueteng paraphernalia such as bet lists, ball pens, stamp pad, calculator and pad papers.
Aglipay said Roxas immediate superior Superintendent Bernardo Diaz, Station 2 chief, will be asked to explain why no administrative sanction should be imposed on him for not lifting a finger against Samsons jueteng draws.
The relief of Roxas came after acting Metro Manila police director Chief Superintendent Rowland Albano sacked last week Chief Inspector Roland Sigaya, Precinct 5 commander of the Station 6 of the Central Police District (CPD) also for tolerating jueteng.
De la Reas men arrested 16 people and seized P358 cash bets and jueteng paraphernalia during the raid last May 23 on Commonwealth Ave. The raiders, however, missed the jueteng financer, a certain Jesse Viceo, of Bulacan. Like Diaz, the Station 6 commander, Superintendent Rogelio Quilang was asked to explain why he abetted jueteng. Non Alquitran
