Evergildo dela Cruz, 56, vice president of Professional Insurance Corporation, and resident of Harvard street in Ignatius Village, was found hanging inside a stockroom in his house.
Sources from the Central Police District said that Dela Cruz may have made a blunder in a deal that would cost the insurance firm millions of pesos. Investigation showed that the victims wife, Yolanda, found him at about 9:30 p.m. hanging from the ceiling of a makeshift stockroom in his house by an electrical cord tied around his neck.
Police believe that Dela Cruz hanged himself earlier that evening. The shocked Yolanda immediately called up relatives and brought her husband to the Quirino Labor Hospital where he died at about 10:30 p.m.
Reports said that the victim had been with the insurance company for many years. Investigators said that Dela Cruz had been confiding to his wife for the past several days that he "felt he was going to get terminated."
Although Yolanda said that her husband never had any suicidal tendencies before, he seemed very depressed the past several days because of his problems at work.
Elements of the CPD are now conducting follow-up operations to make sure that there was no foul play involved. Matthew Estabillo
