The victims were identified as Enrico Alcantara, 24, single, master baker, of Barangay 185, Malaria; and Eric Jason, 15, baker-helper, of Victory Heights. The incident took place around 4 p.m. inside the Armojeda Compound in Barangay 180.
Prior to their unexpected death, it was learned that Alcantara was asked by his employer to pick some mangoes from a tree just beside the bakery.
Alcantara climbed the tree, bringing with him a long steel pipe which he used in picking fruits. Witnesses said he accidentally touched a high voltage tension wire causing him to be electrocuted.
Upon seeing Alcantara, violently shaking from the thousands of volts running through his body, a concerned Jason tried to rescue him by also climbing the tree but he too was electrocuted and was thrown off the tree due to the intensity of the electric charges.
Neighbors rushed Jason to the hospital but he was declared dead on arrival while Alcantara died on the spot. His body was also severely burned by the electricity.
