Trike drivers robbed and stabbed after helping friend

A 24-year-old tricycle driver was robbed and stabbed dead by three men while his colleague was wounded after helping a friend who was being held-up in Quezon City.

Victim Jesus Daet, 24, of 4 Maparan St., Diliman, sustained 10 stab wounds in the body and was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Rolando Calabines, 32, of Governor Village, Barangay Silangan, also sustained a stab wound in the back and is currently receiving medical treatment at the same hospital.

Three robbers attacked Daet and Calabines after they showed up to help their friend, Jester Balanay, 24, who was being divested of cash by the three men. The robbers fled right after the incident.

Reports showed that Balanay was waiting for a ride home at about 1:45 a.m. at Elliptical Road corner East Ave., Barangay Central, Quezon City. After a short while, three men came up from behind him. The robbers pointed their knives at Balanay and demanded that he handover his money. Balanay complied, but he then sought the help of Daet and Calabines, who were apparently nearby.

When the two arrived, the assailants lunged at them and began stabbing Daet in different parts of the body. Calabines was also stabbed in the lower back. The three men then took Daet’s wallet and Calabines’ watch before fleeing the scene. Balanay rushed his bleeding friends to the hospital where Daet expired at about 2:05 a.m. Elements of the Central Police District are now conducting follow-up operations on the case.
