Fireman shoots cop in Caloocan karaoke bar

A rookie policeman is fighting for his life after he was shot and critically wounded by a fireman during a videoke bar melee before dawn yesterday in Caloocan City.

PO 1 Jaworski Osngal, 25, of the Northern Police District-Provisional Patrol Unit (NPD-PPU), sustained a bullet wound in the face and is confined at the Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital.

At about 2:15 a.m. yesterday, Osngal was reportedly having a drinking spree with two others at the Atoy King’s Video and Restaurant along Samson Road when a commotion occurred after two youngsters engaged in a fistfight.

PO2 Noel Gregorio said that Osngal intervened and suspect Fire Officer 3 Raymundo Sabare, who was also drinking with some friends, shot him in the face.

Sabare, assigned at the Caloocan City Fire Station, and a resident of 489 Sitio Uno, Caloocan, reportedly mistook Osngal for a toughie who wanted to create a scene. The suspect escaped with his caliber .45 Llama pistol.

At about 8:10 a.m. yesterday, Sabare reportedly surrendered to Inspector Alberto David, Caloocan City police Duty Officer, with his pistol loaded with 10 bullets. Charges were being readied yesterday against the suspect.

PPU operatives are rookies who augment Metro police. The NPD-PPU under Chief Inspector Genesis Tolejano, has been complained of as their operatives are often seen in nightspots.

Last Dec. 17, at around 3 a.m., in front of Maypajo market, PO1 Jerrymia Soley, reportedly shot dead Jeirus Bastistiana after the latter accidentally bumped him.

Soley, with two other PPU men, had just come out of a karaoke bar when the incident happened, witnesses said.
