Jeepney driver shot dead

A jeepney driver was killed Saturday night after being shot with an improvised shotgun in Las Piñas City following a quarrel.

Diomedes Quimno, 39, sustained multiple pellet wounds in the left arm and apparently died of loss of blood after being shot by Jose Penola Jr., 36, one of his neighbors inside Cadiz compound along Arevalo St., Marlin Ville Subdivision, Pulang Lupa Dos, Las Piñas.

Investigation by Senior Police Officer 1 Willy Diawangbayan showed the incident happened about 11:20 P.M. Saturday after the victim accosted his wife for playing tong-its with some of their neighbors at the time. The Quimno couple reportedly had an altercation prompting the suspect to intervene. The interference, though, led to a confrontation between Penola and the victim until the suspect went home and got his pellet-loaded improvised shotgun (sumpak).

The suspect escaped before responding policemen arrived at the scene but the cops were able to retrieve the firearm.

Meanwhile, Muntinlupa Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD) operatives successfully defused a fragmentary grenade that was recovered near the home of security guards residing at Upper Sucat, Muntinlupa City.

The grenade was spotted by the residents and immediately reported it to the police who then retrieved and brought it to the police station. EOD men later arrived and defused the grenade. Jose Aravilla
