Munti eyes new sister city in USA

The city government of Muntinlupa led by Mayor Jaime Fresnedi is eyeing a possible twinning agreement with the city of Henderson in Nevada, USA early next year.

During his extended working trip to US, Fresnedi took the opportunity to share working relations and business agreements with the city officials in Henderson for the further development of Muntinlupa.

Fresnedi was met by Theresa Villegas, daughter of a former Manila mayor and other Filipinos working in Henderson.

Fresnedi was introduced to the chairman of the committee on sisterhood where some negotiations and preliminary talks were made for the future sister city pact. However, terms and agreements are subject to approval of both the city councils of Muntinlupa and Henderson.

Henderson, a progressive city near Las Vegas, is seen to be a major factor to various concerns in Muntinlupa such as environment protection, waste management, urban migration, education and good governance.

Henry Reyes, city administrator, said that it is important that both parties benefit from the agreement which includes sharing of information, talents and technologies with emphasis on good transportation know-how to eliminate or ease traffic woes in the city.

Fresnedi was honored by the city of Carson in California led by Mayor Daryl Sweeney as honorary citizen for his excellent contributions in the arena of public service. The mayor said he was elated that city governments abroad recognize his efforts as chief executive of a city in a developing country.
